Massive Developments: Tesla Kicks Off Construction of Giga Nevada Semi Factory

Brace yourselves, Tesla enthusiasts! The electric vehicle giant is set to break new ground with the construction of its high-volume Semi factory in Nevada. Recent drone footage captured by a vigilant observer, HinrichsZane, reveals a monumental delivery of steel to the construction site, signaling the commencement of this much-anticipated project.
Footage Reveals Progress
Published on X, HinrichsZane's aerial footage offers a glimpse into the hustle and bustle at the Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada. This factory isn't just any addition; it's a significant expansion aimed at bolstering Tesla’s Semi production capabilities.
Groundbreaking Expansion
The groundwork for this expansion commenced in January, setting the stage for increased production of both Tesla's Semi trucks and its innovative 4680 battery cells. During Tesla’s Q1 2024 earnings call, Dan Priestley, Senior Manager of the Semi Program, indicated that the first Semis are expected to roll off the new production line by late 2025. External customers will likely start receiving their orders by 2026.
Early Deliveries and New Milestones
As a precursor to the large-scale operations, Tesla delivered its first batch of Semi units to PepsiCo in December 2022. The initial delivery has been followed by additional units handed over to PepsiCo in May, bringing their total to 50 Semis. Other notable clients like Costco, Martin Brower, and Walmart have also begun integrating Tesla’s electric trucks into their fleets.
Even before this factory's completion, Tesla Semis have been busy at work. These electric workhorses have already shipped over 20,000 battery packs from Giga Nevada and have been spotted at Tesla's Fremont, California factory. Recently, Tesla released footage showcasing Semis transporting goods between these two crucial manufacturing sites.
What's Next for Tesla's Semi?
Though the official launch is still some months away, the excitement surrounding the Semi program is palpable. With the Nevada expansion, Tesla aims to significantly reduce production bottlenecks and ramp up delivery schedules. The ultimate goal? To solidify Tesla’s dominance in the burgeoning electric trucking industry.
