Tesla's Monumental Milestone: 3 Million Cars Built at Fremont and Giga Nevada
In a remarkable feat of engineering and production, Tesla has announced a milestone achievement: the production of three million cars at its Fremont and Giga Nevada factories. This milestone comes just under two years after the two facilities collectively surpassed the two million mark.
On Friday evening, Tesla confirmed the news in a celebratory post on X. The announcement featured congratulatory messages and photos of the production team at Gigafactory Fremont posing with the three millionth electric vehicle (EV), a deep blue metallic Model S.
The Journey to Three Million
Just two years ago, in July 2022, Tesla celebrated the production of two million vehicles at these sites. In retrospect, the company noted reaching its millionth car produced overall in 2020, as Gigafactory Shanghai was ramping up and Gigafactory Berlin was still under construction.
Why Giga Nevada Matters
Despite not producing complete EVs, Giga Nevada plays a pivotal role by manufacturing critical components like drive motors, powertrains, and battery packs specifically for the Fremont factory. Hence, Giga Nevada also receives a shoutout in Tesla's production milestones.

Fremont Factory's Continued Significance
Historically, Tesla’s Fremont factory has been hailed as one of the most productive automotive plants in the U.S. Although Tesla's other factories have ramped up production significantly, possibly even outpacing the Fremont plant, it continues to play a vital role in Tesla's global strategy due to its high efficiency and productivity.
Expanding Horizons: Giga Nevada
Tesla is also in the process of expanding Giga Nevada to increase production of its 4680 battery cells and electric Semi. Ground was broken on this expansion in January, and the completion will see the addition of 6,500 full-time roles. Moreover, the expanded site will produce enough 4680 battery cells to supply two million light-duty vehicles per year.
New Models and Innovations
This year, Tesla has also begun producing the updated Model 3 “Highland” at its Fremont factory, following its launch in various global markets in the latter half of 2023. Additionally, a new Model 3 Performance configuration has been introduced, starting at $54,990 in the U.S. before federal or local tax credits, subject to price adjustments.
What Lies Ahead?
With the ground-breaking advancements and ongoing expansions, it appears that Tesla is not slowing down anytime soon. The company is poised to continually break new ground, aiming for even higher production milestones and innovations in the EV industry.
