BMW has astoundingly steered clear of the highly profitable off-road market, watching from the sidelines as Mercedes rakes in profits with their G-Class. However, the tides are shifting in 2024 with the introduction of a true Bavarian-powered off-roader. Enter the Land Rover Defender OCTA with its ferocious heart of a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 mild-hybrid engine that packs a stunning 626 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Defender to date.
The Defender OCTA harnesses the power of Bavaria's engineering excellence, perhaps using BMW's new S68 engine. This isn't just speculation; the engine’s output mirrors that of the fire-breathing S63 found in the renowned M5 CS, though now bolstered with 48V tech for an electrifying performance. This addition catapults the Defender OCTA to a league of its own, leaving even the robust Range Rover Sport SV in its dust when it comes to raw power.
