Unbelievable Showdown: 2,000-HP Lamborghini Huracan Takes on 1,600-HP Nissan GT-R in Epic Drag Race
If you thought high-stakes drag racing couldn't get more intense, think again. The legendary 2020 GT-R and the beastly 2020 Lamborghini Huracan EVO recently squared off at Texas Motorplex, courtesy of the good folks at Hoonigan. With 3.8-liter and 5.2-liter engines heavily modified to the extreme, these cars deliver a rubber-burning experience that's a feast for speed enthusiasts everywhere.
The Nissan GT-R: A High-Revving Beast
Diving under the hood of Luna’s R35, you'll find a monster of an engine that’s been stroked to 4.1 liters. Precision's 58-millimeter turbos take center stage, cranking out up to 1,600 horsepower on a 40 psi boost. For this particular showdown, the boost was slightly dialed down, but don't let that fool you. This GT-R features a suite of high-performance modifications including an ethanol setup, ETS intercooler, a supercar-redefines-legacy">carbon fiber driver's seat, and an advanced Jotech Motorsports Stage 7 build. Complemented by Weld race wheels and Hoosier drag radials, Luna’s GT-R is no slouch on the quarter-mile.
The Lamborghini Huracan EVO: Italian Engineering Unleashed
Facing off against this Japanese powerhouse was a Lamborghini Huracan EVO, tuned to a jaw-dropping 2,000 horsepower by T1 Race Development. This gladiator of a supercar boasts a built motor, upgraded dual-clutch transmission, advanced MoTeC engine management, and a fine-tuned fuel system. Carbon fiber components from 1016 Industries further enhance its performance. Even though the weight listed by Hoonigan stands at 4,200 pounds, it seems there might be an editing error considering Lamborghini's official dry weight is around 3,135 pounds.
The Epic Showdown
The first race began with Luna’s GT-R getting a more explosive start, but the Huracan, driven by a man named Jesus, quickly asserted its dominance. Once the Huracan’s nimble, quick-shifting dual-clutch transmission got into second gear, it created a significant and growing gap between itself and the GT-R. Despite a valiant effort, the GT-R was left trailing by several car lengths at the finish line. The second race also saw Luna’s GT-R trying to leverage a better launch, only for the Huracan to catch up and sail past effortlessly.
Beyond the Drag Strip
Nissan fans are holding their breath as the future of the GT-R remains shrouded in mystery. Will the R36 be electric, or is it just a pipe dream? Meanwhile, Lamborghini's innovation train is speeding ahead. Later this year, the Italian automaker plans to unveil a groundbreaking plug-in hybrid V8 supercar based on the Revuelto’s chassis. Named LB634, this new model promises an awe-inspiring 888 HP, thanks to a combination of a 4.0-liter turbocharged engine and three electric motors. Scheduled for an August debut, this next-generation supercar is guaranteed to redefine high-speed performance.
If you’re a fan of drag racing, performance cars, or just love speed, this match-up was a spectacle you wouldn’t have wanted to miss. Both the 2,000-HP Lamborghini Huracan and the 1,600-HP Nissan GT-R showcase the epitome of automotive engineering and tuning, setting the bar sky-high for what high-performance vehicles can achieve on the drag strip.
