Breaking news from Koenigsegg, where the Jesko Absolut has reclaimed the 0-400-0 KPH record from its hybrid sibling, the Regera. For a hypercar enthusiast, this is a momentous event. Back in May 2023, the Rimac Nevera had bested the Regera’s impressive record by posting a mind-blowing 29.93 seconds. But now, the Swedes have proven that combustion engines still have plenty of fight left in them.

Initially, Christian von Koenigsegg decided to retest the plug-in hybrid twin-turbo V8 Regera to see if the car could improve its previous record of 31.49 seconds. The Swedish team succeeded, clocking in a scintillating 28.81 seconds on the runway of Orebro Airport.

Fast forward a year later, and factory test driver Markus Lundh shattered records once again, this time behind the wheel of the non-assisted Jesko Absolut. For those unfamiliar, the Absolut is a low-downforce spec designed for sheer speed, in contrast to its high-downforce sibling, the Jesko Attack, intended for track use. Markus managed to stop the clock at an astonishing 27.83 seconds, reaching a mind-bending top speed of 413 kilometers per hour (256 mph) within 1,617 meters (5,305 feet) of the runway.

Christian von Koenigsegg himself added context to this feat, emphasizing that the Jesko Absolut managed to break records without any active aero aiding its braking. Running on E85 biofuel instead of regular unleaded gas, this marvel of engineering produces a staggering 1,600 metric horsepower. Beyond just the 0-400-0 KPH achievement, the Jesko Absolut also claimed world records for 0-400 KPH, 0-250 MPH, and 0-250-0 MPH, according to measurements verified by Racelogic in the United Kingdom.

What's particularly intriguing about this accomplishment is how it positions the Jesko Absolut as a formidable challenger in the hypercar world. While the Rimac Nevera and other hypercars like the Hennessey Venom F5 and Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ boast amazing speeds, Koenigsegg's recent achievement puts it at the forefront.

Christian von Koenigsegg made it clear that they are aiming for even greater heights, targeting speeds between 330 to 350 miles per hour with the Jesko Absolut. This puts it well beyond the current top speeds of its fiercest competitors. However, neither Koenigsegg nor Hennessey has managed to max out their theoretical top speeds in real-world conditions, while the Chiron Super Sport 300+ requires removal of its electronic speed limiter to cross the 300 mph mark.

The official press release from Koenigsegg hints that the top speed run for the Jesko Absolut is a matter of 'when' rather than 'if.' Christian von Koenigsegg remarked, "Now it is all down to tire testing, development, and approval before we finally can make an attempt at that record."

But that's not the end of Koenigsegg's ambitions. "In parallel, we plan to see what kind of records the Jesko Attack can achieve," Christian added. Is Koenigsegg gearing up for a Nurburgring showdown? Only time will tell, but the shadow of the Mercedes-AMG ONE’s 6:30.705 lap time looms large. Stay tuned to find out what's next for the king of speed.
