Insane Power Upgrade: BMW M5 E60 Gets Supercharged V10 Pushing 660 HP
If there's one thing the BMW M5 E60 didn't need, it was more power. Originally equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 boasting 507 hp and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque, this super sedan from 2007 has now undergone a remarkable transformation. Dutch tuning experts at MTR Performance have supercharged the M5, elevating its output to a staggering 660 hp and 640 Nm (471 lb-ft) of torque, as confirmed by recent dyno tests.
The addition of forced induction has breathed new life into this high-performance luxury sedan, demonstrating the potential for extraordinary power gains even in a car that's 17 years old. With power now exclusively channeled to the rear wheels, the driving experience in this enhanced M5 must be nothing short of exhilarating.
BMW's decision to utilize the V10 engine in limited models, including the M5 E60 and M6 variants, adds to the exclusivity of this powertrain. While production numbers were modest, with approximately 33,675 vehicles featuring the V10, its legacy extends beyond BMW, finding its way into other models like the Wiesmann GT MF5 and Vermot Veritas RS III.
This extensively modified M5 showcases additional enhancements such as a carbon fiber hood and trunk lid, upgraded StopTech brakes, a customized exhaust system with quad finishers, and a carbon fiber kidney grille. The visibly lower stance hints at a more aggressive suspension setup, enhancing both aesthetics and performance.
Renowned auto journalist Chris Harris's recent acquisition of an M5 Touring from this era further highlights the enduring appeal of the V10 powerplant, as he opts to preserve its original naturally aspirated configuration. Meanwhile, BMW's teaser for the upcoming M5 Touring in G99 guise hints at a new chapter for the iconic model, slated for release after the G90 sedan.
