Why the 2024 Audi RS 6 Avant is the Ultimate Dream Car Without Breaking the Bank
If you had all the money in the world, what car would you buy? For many car enthusiasts, the 2024 Audi RS 6 Avant is at the top of the list. This phenomenal vehicle combines style, performance, and practicality in a way that few others can.
First Impressions
I had the privilege of driving the RS 6 Avant during its first-drive launch and again in Agoura Hills, California. Both experiences solidified this car as a top contender in the luxury segment. It felt like Audi had peeked into my dreams and crafted a car specifically for me.
The Wheels
The RS 6 Avant comes with some impressive 22-inch wheels, but they’re more suited for the well-paved roads of Germany than the rough terrain of California. The adaptive air suspension helps, but the large wheels struggle with the bumps and imperfections typical of American roads. My advice? Stick with the standard 21-inch wheels for a smoother ride.
The Sound
One of the standout features of the RS 6 Avant is its incredible exhaust note. The large exhaust pipes at the back produce a sound that turns heads. It's amazing to see people’s reactions when they realize the noise is coming from a midsize wagon. The car has three exhaust settings: Quiet, Automatic, and Present, with even the loudest option remaining respectable under normal acceleration.
Performance
This car is an engineering marvel. It handles like a dream even on the tight, winding roads of the Santa Monica Mountains. The rear-biased all-wheel-drive system gives you confidence and makes the car feel nimble despite its size. You can keep your performance SUV; I'll take the RS 6 Avant any day.
Practicality
On the practical side, the RS 6 Avant offers ample space for both passengers and cargo. It’s a significant upgrade from my old A4-based Allroad, providing enough room for my family without sacrificing performance. The cargo area even features a handy roll-up cargo net, adding to its utility.
The Engine
The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine is a masterpiece, delivering 621 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, making it one of the fastest wagons on the market. The power delivery is smooth and exhilarating, especially in Dynamic mode.
Steering and Handling
The steering in the RS 6 Avant is top-notch. It may not match the tactile feedback of a Porsche, but it's impressively close. The various drive modes offer noticeable differences in steering response, with Dynamic mode being particularly quick and eager. The car’s steering is so precise that shuffle steering around corners is rarely necessary.
Interior
The dual-screen infotainment system in the RS 6 Avant is one of my favorites. It’s user-friendly, responsive, and visually appealing. The haptic feedback is a nice touch, making it feel like you're pressing real buttons. I hope this feature survives in future models.
Optional Features
For a car that starts at $126,895, you'd expect more standard features. Many desirable options, like a full leather interior, head-up display, and adaptive cruise control, are part of pricey packages. My ideal RS 6 Avant would include the Bang & Olufsen sound system and the Driver assistance package, bringing the total to around $127,490.
Sadly, I don’t have $127,490 lying around. When the time came to return the car, it felt like saying goodbye to a legend. The RS 6 Avant is not just a car; it’s a statement, a daily driver, a weekend warrior, and a future classic. It's a blend of performance, style, and function that’s hard to beat. Chef’s kiss.
