For Corvette enthusiasts, the E-Ray isn't just another high-performance model—it's a groundbreaking hybrid marvel. It's the first Chevrolet Corvette to come equipped with a front-mounted electric motor, paired with a robust 300-volt battery boasting a total capacity of 1.9 kilowatt hours. While it shares the same 6.2-liter small block V8 as the Stingray, the combination of electric and internal combustion power gives the E-Ray a noticeable edge off the line.

Chevrolet claims the E-Ray can go from 0 to 60 mph in an eye-watering 2.5 seconds and blitz through the quarter mile in just 10.5 seconds. Priced starting at $104,900, the E-Ray puts down 655 horsepower and up to 592 pound-feet of torque. These are impressive figures, but not quite enough for the performance aficionados at BoostDistrict. Founding member Roshan Poptani wasn't content with factory specs and took on the challenge of pushing the E-Ray to its limits.

The BoostDistrict Transformation

BoostDistrict, based in Midlothian, Texas, has developed a twin-turbo kit for all existing versions of the C8 Corvette, including the E-Ray. This performance kit is priced at $21,250, installed and tuned. With BoostDistrict's enhancements, the E-Ray can now manage a quarter-mile pass in a staggering 9.7 seconds—on stock tires!

The secret behind this mind-bending performance lies in Precision 6466 turbochargers. The E-Ray saw a dyno-tested output of 1,022 horsepower at the wheels, a leap from its factory output. BoostDistrict claims their twin-turbo kit can push the E-Ray to an astounding 1,400 crank horsepower at 20 PSI of boost. But even with a modest 6 PSI of boost, a twin-turbo Stingray is capable of 730 crank horsepower.

An Orchestra of Engineering

The engineering finesse doesn't stop at turbochargers. The kit also includes Precision blow-off valves, wastegates, an air-to-water intercooler, a heat exchanger, and meticulously designed hot- and cold-side piping. The result is a symphony of mechanical prowess that’s as exciting to hear as it is to drive.

If you prefer a DIY approach, BoostDistrict offers a mail-out package starting at $18,650, although you’ll have to add $1,500 for the plug-and-load tuning. Installation at BoostDistrict's facilities takes about two weeks for the 730-horsepower Stage 1 version. Higher output versions can take anywhere between four to seven weeks to gather parts and complete installation.

Official Corvette Innovations

General Motors isn't sitting idly by either. They are prepping their own twin-turbo iteration of the Corvette. Set to debut as a 2025 model, the C8-generation ZR1 is expected to produce around 800 horsepower from its 5.5-liter DOHC engine. What remains unclear is whether GM will stick with the Z06's flat-plane crankshaft or opt for a cross-plane crankshaft.

The last time GM offered a turbocharged Corvette was in the 1990s with the C4-generation B2K Callaway Twin-Turbo. Only a bit over 500 units were transformed under license from GM between 1987 and 1991.

Future Visions

Looking even further ahead, enthusiasts are excited about the rumored Zora model, which promises to combine the best of the ZR1 and E-Ray. Imagine a front electric drive unit with a twin-turbocharged V8 mounted behind the passenger compartment, generating a Ferrari SF90-rivaling 1,000 horsepower. The future of high-performance Corvettes has never looked more thrilling.
