Tesla Owners are Obsessively Clean: Survey Reveals Shocking Car Care Habits
In a fascinating survey conducted across the UK, an intriguing discovery has been made about Tesla drivers. According to the findings, Tesla owners take the crown for having the cleanest cars in the country.
The survey, carried out by UK-based end-of-life scrap vehicle comparison service Scrap Car Comparison, polled 1,000 motorists in March 2024. Participants, all above the age of 18, were asked about their car cleaning habits, including how often they clean both the exterior and interior of their vehicles. The survey also probed whether they had ever felt embarrassed to offer someone a ride due to the condition of their car.
The results were quite surprising. Tesla owners were found to wash their cars an astonishing 130 times a year on average. This breaks down to more than two car washes per week. To add to the jaw-dropping figures, 27% of the Tesla owners surveyed admitted to washing their cars every single day.
Trailing behind Tesla, Honda and BMW owners washed their cars 52 times a year on average, roughly once a week. Mercedes, Toyota, and Audi owners came next, with an average of 21 car washes per year. In stark contrast, the average motorist from other brands admitted to cleaning their cars about 12 times per year, equating to once a month.
Scrap Car Comparison did not delve into the reasons why Tesla owners were so diligent about cleanliness. However, it's well-known that Tesla vehicles are often referred to as the 'iPhones of the automotive industry.' Just like how consumers keep their premium tech devices pristine, it seems Tesla owners extend that level of care to their cars. This trend of maintaining high-value items is noticeable in other areas too; for instance, the global smartphone case market was valued at $25.7 billion in 2023.
Many speculate that the advanced nature of Teslas makes them feel less like traditional cars and more like sophisticated pieces of technology, which owners would naturally want to keep in pristine condition. Another plausible reason could simply be the deep affection Tesla owners have for their vehicles, coupled with a strong desire to maintain their sleek appearances.
