The 2024 automobile landscape is vastly different, thanks to flagship sports cars such as the Ferrari 296 and now, the Porsche 911 Hybrid. The new Porsche 911 Hybrid has roared through the famed Nürburgring circuit, clocking a jaw-dropping lap time of 7:16.934 minutes—an impressive 8.7 seconds faster than its predecessor.

While Porsche was generous enough to share this lap time, they kept us guessing about which predecessor they were referencing. Given Porsche's vast array of 911 models, this can be a head-scratcher. However, our sleuthing friends at the Porsche Club of America did some digging and unearthed clues pointing towards the 992.1 Carrera GTS as the previous lap holder. This seems plausible, as the official lap time for the 992.1 Carrera GTS stands at 7:25.632—a difference that aligns perfectly with the new hybrid’s improved time. This remarkable achievement was attained by Porsche brand ambassador and test driver, Jörg Bergmeister, who praised the 911 Hybrid for its enhanced grip, significantly increased power, and exceptional responsiveness.
Why the Nürburgring Matters
Why is this Nürburgring lap time so crucial, you might wonder? In the automotive world, this infamous circuit is the go-to proving ground for performance. Shaving even half a second off a lap time here is a monumental feat, so an 8.7-second improvement is practically a revolution.
