While a battery-assisted 911 tempts the green-minded enthusiasts, what's truly stirring excitement is the anticipation of the next big thing for the 992 platform: the ferocious GT2 RS.

Following the proven formula from the 991-generation 911, the 992 is set to receive a turbocharged GT2 RS variant in the latter half of its lifecycle, possibly within the next year. The latest sightings at the legendary Nurburgring provide a tantalizing glimpse into this beast in the making, unmistakably confirming its development.

Trackside Sightings: The GT2 RS in Disguise

The YouTube channel CarSpyMedia recently captured intriguing footage of a 911 test mule pounding the pavement at the Nurburgring. On the surface, this test car is camouflaged to resemble the current GT3 RS with identical bodywork and prominent 'GT3 RS' decals. However, the distinctive exhaust note hints at its true identity—a deeper, more menacing growl replacing the high-pitched wail of the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six found in the GT3 RS.

Gone is the shrill symphony of the GT3 RS, substituted with a guttural roar more characteristic of the previous-generation GT2 RS. This transformation in sound alone is enough to convince keen observers that Porsche is indeed testing the upcoming GT2 RS, cleverly masked under a GT3 RS guise.
