Discover America’s Hidden Gem: National Corvette Museum's Unmatched Appeal
Tourists are flocking to Kentucky, and the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green is playing a pivotal role in this influx. According to city leaders like Lauren Guess, director of communications for Visit BGKY, tourist expenditures surged by 9% year over year in 2023.
Guess highlighted the astounding growth in visitor numbers to Bowling Green, which saw a 21% rise in 2022 and a further 7.9% increase in 2023. This surge translated to a whopping $477.3 million in visitor spending and $39.3 million in state and local tax revenue last year.
So, what's behind this explosive growth? Guess points to a combination of attractions, including the stunning Lost River Cave and vibrant Hilltopper sports, but the crown jewel remains the National Corvette Museum. NCM Director of Marketing and Communications Ryan Eichler attributes the museum's allure to significant investments and constant updates.
“The National Corvette Museum is very special because of the amount of investment that we’ve made in the museum over the last three years. That’s really been over $3 million that we put into the exhibit space,” Eichler explained. “We make sure to constantly keep a new collection of Corvettes, as well as new exhibits that we’re opening for the public, just to make sure that we’re keeping people interested and keeping people coming back.”
He believes these efforts pay off, as the museum can offer fresh experiences with every visit. “We make sure to constantly keep a new collection of Corvettes, as well as new exhibits that we’re opening for the public, just to make sure that we’re keeping people interested and keeping people coming back,” he added.
Small-town charm also plays a critical role in Bowling Green's appeal. Guess elaborates, noting that big cities often lack the friendly, welcoming community that Bowling Green offers. “When people come here, they’re getting these larger city amenities, but with the comfort of being in a small town,” she said.
Eichler agrees, emphasizing that the local community contributes significantly to the National Corvette Museum's success. “So, whether that be our staff and associates that really keep the museum running, to the goodwill that we have and people bringing in their family and their friends when someone’s coming to town to visit,” he said. “Of course, without Bowling Green, there would be no National Corvette Museum.”
The National Corvette Museum isn't just a place for car enthusiasts; it’s a cornerstone of Bowling Green’s tourism industry and a testament to the powerful impact of community and innovation. It’s an essential stop not only for die-hard Corvette fans but also for anyone seeking a unique travel experience in Kentucky.
