Amid a whirlwind of speculation, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has categorically denied that a so-called 'magic front wing' is the singular mastermind behind the team's remarkable 2024 F1 comeback.
The beginning of the current season was fraught with challenges for Mercedes. The breakthrough came from achieving a balance that made the car more predictable and easier to drive at its limits. “It wasn't a miracle front wing, it was more the balance that we achieved,” Wolff explained, pointing out that car setup and optimization produced the real gains.

Wolff also shared that Mercedes has not yet shown its full hand. More updates are expected in the upcoming rounds before the summer break, promising to bolster the performance even further. “There’s more to come in terms of performance. We’re bringing updates to Budapest and Spa,” he revealed.
But don't mistake this momentum for complacency. Wolff is acutely aware of the need to stay grounded and cautious. “We mustn’t get carried away. We had a win last week, benefiting from the entangling [between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris in Austria], but today we have an honest win.” It's not just wins but race pace under various conditions that highlights the potential of the W15, Wolff added, noting both George Russell and Hamilton’s ability to lead races seamlessly.
