Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Shatters 0-249-0 mph Record — The Ultimate Hypercar Speed Test
Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut: The New Record-Setting Hypercar

In the realm of hypercars, Koenigsegg has once again proven its dominance. The Swedish automaker has just broken its own 0-400-0 kph (0-249-0 mph) record with the remarkable Jesko Absolut. This achievement spotlights Koenigsegg’s relentless pursuit of automotive excellence and speed.

On Top of the World

Setting a blistering time of 27.8 seconds, the Jesko Absolut bested the previous record of 28.8 seconds held by its sibling, the Regera, and left the Rimac Nevera’s 29.9-second record far behind. It’s a true testament to the engineering marvel that is the Jesko Absolut. Catering to both metric and imperial aficionados, Koenigsegg also noted times of 0-250-0 mph and 0-250 mph at 28.2 seconds and 19.2 seconds, respectively.

Harnessing Power and Precision

The Jesko Absolut is equipped with a low-drag design, sporting a drag coefficient of just 0.27. This is achieved through reduced frontal area and the elimination of active aerodynamic elements. Though the Jesko series also includes the high-downforce Jesko Attack variant, it was the Absolut's streamlined nature that made it the perfect candidate for this record-setting run.

A Perfect Run in Örebro, Sweden

Taking advantage of an optimum early morning window at an airfield in Örebro, Sweden, Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh made the record-setting run at 5:00 a.m. on June 27. Conducting the attempt in cool air and under low wind conditions, Lundh executed the run in a Jesko Absolut configured identically to production models, save for a roll cage and a driver's seat from the One:1 hypercar, a personal choice of the test driver.

Stock, Yet Supreme

This record-breaking Jesko Absolut wasn't a one-off special. Koenigsegg emphasized that the car was near-stock, sharing the same Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires as those sold to customers. With a production run of 125 units already sold out since 2022, this record attempt underscores the hypercar's capability. The first customer units were already rolling out earlier this year.

Prepping for the Top Speed Record

Christian von Koenigsegg, the visionary behind the brand, has ambitious plans for the Jesko Absolut. While the recent run showcased the car’s phenomenal acceleration and braking, it’s only a precursor to an even more significant challenge—a top speed record attempt scheduled for 2024. Lundh’s run peaked at 256 mph, an impressive figure, but still shy of the ultimate top speed record.

Announcing the intent, von Koenigsegg shared, "This record run validated the accuracy of the simulated and calculated performance of the Jesko Absolut, which gives us great confidence in its ability to outright be the fastest, fully homologated production car in the world. Now it is all down to tire testing, development, and approval before we finally can make an attempt at that record."

The Road Ahead

The Jesko Absolut's recent feat not only solidifies its standing in the hypercar hall of fame but also builds anticipation for what's next. With tire testing and further development on the horizon, Koenigsegg’s journey towards setting the top speed record continues. For automotive enthusiasts and hypercar aficionados, the culmination of these efforts is eagerly awaited.
