Gabriele Mini's Dramatic Monaco Pole - PREMA Racing Dominates Again
The streets of Monte Carlo once again witnessed the raw talent of Gabriele Mini as he clinched pole position for PREMA Racing in a nail-biting Formula 3 qualifying session. The Alpine Academy standout clocked an impressive 1m 23.942s in the first segment, marking his second consecutive pole at Monaco.
The highly anticipated qualifying session was a tale of highs and lows. Luke Browning of Williams Academy and Hitech Pulse-Eight initially looked set to challenge for the top spot. However, a costly error at the Swimming Pool chicane saw the Briton make contact with the barriers, causing suspension damage and ending his pole ambitions prematurely.
PREMA Racing's stronghold continued as the field was divided into two groups of 15 for the session. Mini's time was the mark to beat as Group B drivers took to the iconic circuit. Among the early frontrunners were PREMA’s Dino Beganovic and Arvid Lindblad, but it was ART Grand Prix’s Christian Mansell who stole the spotlight briefly, setting a 1m 24.921s to claim the provisional P1 in his group.
The excitement didn't stop there. The second segment witnessed two red flag interruptions. Rookie James Hedley brought out the first red flag after his Jenzer Motorsport machine encountered the barriers early on. With about two minutes left on the clock, the second red flag dashed the hopes of several drivers, including Beganovic, who was on a promising lap that could have seen him top Group B.
As the clock ran down, it was clear that time had run out for any further flying laps, leading to an electrifying conclusion with results aggregated across both groups. Gabriele Mini emerged triumphantly from the chaos, securing the coveted pole position for Sunday's Feature Race. As a result, Christian Mansell will start alongside Mini, with Luke Browning lining up in third despite his earlier incident.
This gripping chapter in Formula 3 sets the stage for a thrilling Feature Race in the heart of Monaco, where young talents look to cement their legacy on one of motorsport's most challenging circuits.
