Bugatti Unveils Final Masterpiece: The Ultimate Chiron is a Super Sport Legend

On a milestone Thursday, Bugatti took the covers off the final Chiron: a breathtaking Super Sport version known as the L’Ultime. This marks the end of an illustrious seven-year production run, during which Bugatti assembled a total of 500 Chirons. The 500th car, the L'Ultime, is loaded with design elements that celebrate this remarkable achievement.

The exterior fade on the L’Ultime captures the two colors that graced the Chiron at its grand debut during the 2016 Geneva Auto Show. It’s not just an aesthetic choice; it’s a homage to the car’s impressive journey and evolution. Adding to its exclusivity, handwritten scripts on the car’s flanks mark various locations significant to the Chiron's storied history.

Since its debut, the Chiron has seen a multitude of exciting variants. Among them, the Super Sport 300+ is a headline-grabber. A prototype broke the 300-mph barrier at Germany's Ehra-Lessien test track in 2019, making automotive history. Hence, it’s fitting that this historic track is one of the key locations engraved on the L'Ultime.

While Bugatti did offer 30 units of the Super Sport 300+ to the public, the top speed of these vehicles was curbed for safety, though the exact limit remains under wraps. The L'Ultime draws its inspiration from the Super Sport version, albeit with more luxury and a softer chassis. Notably, while the standard Chiron’s top speed is capped at 261 mph, the L’Ultime’s siblings in the Super Sport category boast a speed limit of 273 mph.

What comes after the Chiron? A successor is slated for revelation in June, set to feature a cutting-edge hybrid powertrain that includes a newly developed V-16 engine. Production for this next-generation hypercar won't kick off until 2026, leaving Bugatti enthusiasts with a bit of a wait.

In the interim, Bugatti has plenty to keep fans excited. The manufacturer plans to produce a 100-car run of the Mistral, a roadster that will be the last to house Bugatti’s famed quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16 engine.

Additionally, a small batch of approximately 40 Bolide track cars will also come out of Bugatti’s factory. These Bolides promise to be a thrilling addition to Bugatti’s elite lineup. As the legacy of the Chiron culminates with the L'Ultime, Bugatti is laying down the canvas for its next masterpiece.
