Brad Pitt Returns to the Fast Lane: The Inside Scoop on His 2025 F1 Movie
Racing enthusiasts and cinema lovers alike can now gear up for the highly-anticipated F1 film featuring Hollywood icon Brad Pitt. Formula 1 and Apple Original Films have officially announced that the movie will storm into theaters on June 25, 2025, internationally and two days later on June 27 in North America.
The project, which began its engines in 2023, is backed by collaborations with F1, race promoters, and the FIA. Production ramps up this year and promises exhilarating ensembles and authentic racing experiences, with scenes slated for filming at the British and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix in 2024.
A Star-Studded Cast
Brad Pitt takes center stage as an ex-F1 driver named Sonny Hayes. Hayes, who faced a career-shattering crash in the 1990s, makes a dramatic return to racing to mentor rookie sensation Joshua Pierce, portrayed by Damson Idris of Black Mirror and Snowfall fame. Joining them is Academy Award winner Javier Bardem, taking on the role of the beleaguered APXGP team owner.
Realistic Racing Action
One of the film's many draws is its commitment to realism. Both Pitt and Idris have taken on the bulk of the driving duties in the APXGP car, a Formula 2 chassis modified to resemble its Formula 1 counterpart. The duo even suited up and joined the grid for last year's British GP, rubbing elbows with real-life Grand Prix legends.
The attention to detail doesn't stop there. Filming has incorporated intense racing scenes with a Porsche 911 GTD at the prestigious Daytona 24 Hours. These elements hint that Sonny Hayes' journey in the film will start with his stint in the iconic race.
Global On-Track Filming
The film's dedication to bringing authentic F1 action to the silver screen cannot be understated. Scenes have been shot on location at several renowned circuits, including Silverstone shortly after the Monaco GP, and Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi locations following last year's races.
An All-Star Production Team
The crew behind the scenes is nothing short of legendary. Director Joseph Kosinski, famed for crafting the high-octane scenes in Top Gun: Maverick, directs the film. The production is overseen by Hollywood's own Jerry Bruckheimer in collaboration with Lewis Hamilton's Dawn Apollo Films.
Immersive Viewing Experience
Aiming to immerse viewers completely, the movie will be released in both standard cinema formats and IMAX. This ensures that audiences will experience the highest resolution visuals, matched with state-of-the-art projectors to deliver the largest and crispest race action frame imaginable.
A Stellar Supporting Cast
Rounding out the film is an impressive roster of supporting actors, including Academy Award nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Emmy winner Tobias Menzies (The Crown), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso), Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve, The Witcher), and Samson Kayo (Our Flag Means Death).
