As the auto world buzzes with excitement, BMW is set to introduce not one, but two high-performance race cars in the same month. Mark your calendars for May 29, when BMW will officially unveil the M4 GT3 EVO and M4 GT4 EVO at the prestigious Nürburgring 24 Hours.
This grand debut follows the recent release of the new M4 CS, but the anticipation for these race cars, designed exclusively for the track, is on a different level. BMW M Motorsport has been tight-lipped about specifics but has dropped enough teasers to fuel enthusiasm among car aficionados.
The Countdown Begins
The M4 GT3 EVO has already hit the track for testing. M boss Frank van Meel gave enthusiasts a sneak peek when the car made its test debut at Spa-Francorchamps in September 2023. Sporting new headlights akin to the road version introduced in the M4 LCI facelift, the GT3 EVO promises not only a fresh look but also some aerodynamic tweaks aimed at improving both performance and efficiency.
One of the primary goals for the M4 GT3 EVO is to reduce operating costs for racing teams, a feat they hope to achieve through an array of modifications. The team of engineers is working meticulously on elements like handling improvements, ease of maintenance, and software updates centered around tire management.
“Emphasis will be on expanding vehicle functionalities, enhancing component reliability, improving handling for the teams, and further enhancing drivability,” says van Meel.
A New Era for the M4 GT4 EVO
The M4 GT4 EVO promises to be a more accessible, yet highly competitive, counterpart to the GT3 EVO. Initially announced in December 2023, this model will also adopt the sharper headlights seen in its road-legal sibling.
This track machine has had a stellar debut season, clocking over 180 podium finishes and more than 70 class victories. BMW M Motorsport plans to manufacture and deliver an additional 50 units throughout 2024, ensuring that more teams can get in on the action.
While full details and specifications will be revealed at the end of May, the racing community is already teeming with excitement.
“The first season was a massive success, setting a high bar for what's to come in 2025,” according to BMW M Motorsport.
The Path Ahead
In the realm of entry-level racing, the M2 CS Racing remains based on the F87 chassis, and there hasn't been any word on transitioning to the new G87 generation. Yet, this doesn’t dampen the excitement building around the forthcoming M4 models.
The M4 GT3 EVO will hit the competitive racing scene in the 2025 season, an event many are eagerly counting down to. The anticipation is palpable, as these cars are not merely updates but significant evolutions in design, functionality, and performance
With so much to look forward to, the end of May holds the promise of revolutionizing the racing segment, especially for BMW enthusiasts. Stay tuned as we bring you more updates and insights leading up to this momentous launch.
