The 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship season commenced with the thrilling Qatar 1812 km race at the Lusail International Circuit near Doha, UAE. BMW M Team WRT debuted in the Hypercar class with two powerful BMW M Hybrid V8s, but both entries faced tough competition and finished outside the top ten positions.
In the Hypercar category, the #20 BMW M Hybrid V8 driven by Sheldon van der Linde, René Rast, and Robin Frijns clinched a 12th place, while their teammates in the #15 car, Dries Vanthoor, Raffaele Marciello, and Marco Wittmann, encountered challenges and finished 16th after a last-minute pit stop. The race was ultimately won by Porsche Penske Motorsport.
BMW M4 GT3 Excitement
In the LMGT3 class, Team WRT #46 BMW M4 GT3, featuring racing legend Valentino Rossi, Maxime Martin, and Ahmad Al Harthy, secured a commendable fourth-place finish, narrowly missing the podium. Meanwhile, the #31 BMW M4 GT3 driven by Augusto Farfus, Sean Gelael, and Darren Leung finished sixth, showing strong potential. Manthey PureRxcing took the victory with the Porsche 911 GT3 R.
