When the original BMW 8 Series rolled off the production line, its sleek styling, cutting-edge technology, and powerful V12 engine made it an object of desire for car enthusiasts worldwide. In a bold move, the German tuning specialists have replaced the BMW 8 Series' original M70 V12 engine with a more compact yet formidable V8. But this is not just any V8; it's the S62B50, the heart that once powered the beloved M5 E39 and the illustrious Z8 E52. Manhart has fine-tuned this 4.9-liter naturally aspirated beast to churn out a robust 420 horsepower. While the V8 boasts four fewer cylinders, it delivers approximately 120 hp more than the standard 850i model. The result? A car that not only looks stunning but performs with an electrifying vigor previously unimagined for this model.
This 1990 E31 is much more than just an engine swap; it represents a complete restoration miracle crafted over three years by Manhart and one of their trusted partners. Despite the new heart, the vehicle retains its classic six-speed manual transmission, channeling that newfound power to the rear wheels. The upgrades continue with a front axle brake overhaul and an H&R suspension kit for reduced ride height, enhancing both aesthetics and performance.
Manhart didn't stop at the engine and suspension. The original wheels have been replaced with bespoke 20-inch alloys featuring a sharp double-spoke design, shod in high-performance Continental SportContact 7 tires—255/30 R20 in the front, 295/25 R20 in the rear. Further changes include the installation of Bilstein shock absorbers, redefined front and rear skirting, M-specific mirror caps, and an eye-catching trunk lid spoiler.
The makeover continues inside. Manhart has luxuriously wrapped the 2+2 cabin in fresh leather, complemented by soft Alcantara on several surfaces. Blue and red stitching evokes the iconic M logo, blending elegance with sportiness.
