The much-anticipated 2025 BMW M5 G90 has officially entered production, mere days after its high-profile world premiere. The grand sedan comes to life at BMW's historic Dingolfing plant in Germany, a facility with deep ties to the M5's storied lineage. The Dingolfing plant has been an integral part of the M5 story since the 1980s when it first began pre-assembling bodies for the original E28. Over the years, this plant has evolved, eventually taking on the full production of the M5 since the launch of the E34 model.
Alongside the mighty M5, the Dingolfing plant also churns out the regular 5 Series and the smaller 4 Series and M4 models. And for those eagerly awaiting the M5 Touring edition, you'll be pleased to know that it too will be produced at the same factory later this year. BMW has announced that this G99 version will start production before the sedan’s market launch in Europe, set for November 2.
One of the standout features of the new G90 is its impressive color palette. BMW is offering no fewer than 150 special colors from the Individual catalog, allowing owners to truly personalize their super sedan. Also noteworthy is the inclusion of a carbon fiber roof, which is a premium touch that adds both aesthetic and performance benefits.
The two models BMW has showcased so far highlight this attention to detail. There’s a Speed Yellow M5 for the European market and an Isle of Man Green version likely headed for the United States. Sharp-eyed enthusiasts will spot the mandatory orange side reflectors on the US-spec model, a small but crucial feature in compliance with local regulations.
Another point of interest is the difference in wheel design between the two show models. The yellow M5 sports the Style 951 M wheels in black, while the green M5 boasts two-tone 952 M alloys. Both utilize a staggered setup with 20-inch fronts and 21-inch rears, wrapped in 285/40 ZR20 and 295/35 ZR21 tires, respectively. The gold brake calipers on the yellow M5 hint at the addition of optional carbon-ceramic brakes, a must-have for those looking to maximize their car's stopping power.
With production now rolling, BMW plans to ramp up output significantly, aiming to produce several dozen M5s each day in the coming weeks. The carbon fiber roof is sourced from BMW’s Landshut plant, just 30 kilometers away, ensuring a streamlined supply chain. Meanwhile, the chassis and the 18.6-kWh battery pack are manufactured within the Dingolfing site.
Though the G90 shares its assembly line with the more common 5 Series G60, it's clear that the newest M5 stands apart. With a wider and stiffer body, it promises to offer an unmatched driving experience, blending BMW’s performance heritage with cutting-edge technology.
As BMW continues its tradition of innovation and excellence, the 2025 M5 G90 is a testament to the brand’s commitment to pushing the envelope in the realm of high-performance sedans. For enthusiasts and casual fans alike, the new M5 is a car that promises to deliver on all fronts, combining luxury, power, and the unmistakable thrill of driving a BMW.
