Meet the New ALPINA B3 GT: The Ultimate Blend of Power and Elegance
In an unprecedented move, ALPINA has unveiled the highly-anticipated GT version of the B3, much earlier than expected. Typically, such editions mark the end of a model cycle, like the recent B5 GT for the 5 Series G30/G31. With several good years left for the G20/G21 models, the B3 GT's early debut has piqued the interest of auto enthusiasts worldwide. Recently, these dynamic machines graced the Sachsenring track in Germany, capturing attention in a stunning photoshoot.
Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future
Alongside the high-performance newcomers, ALPINA proudly showcased some of its classic cars, a homage to the brand's storied history. Joining the BMW Group family has only brightened the future prospects of this Buchloe-based marque. While electrification is inevitable due to tightening emissions regulations, ALPINA remains committed to its enthusiast roots. For now, we still have the joy of experiencing their iconic inline-six and V8 engines. Nonetheless, a new era of electrified ALPINA models is on the horizon, ensuring the brand's adaptation and survival.
A Performance Boost for the B3 GT
Fans of traditional performance need not worry just yet. The current B3 GT retains its beloved six-cylinder engine, albeit with an impressive power increase. The “S58” engine now churns out a robust 522 hp, a significant 34 hp jump from its predecessor. Torque remains a beastly 538 lb-ft (730 Nm), surpassing even the figures found in BMW’s M3 Competition and M3 CS models. However, the B3 GT's exclusivity means seeing one on the road will remain a rare and special sight.
The Touring Variant: Practicality Meets Performance
If versatility is your aim, look no further than the B3 GT Touring. This model may well be the ultimate all-rounder, offering sublime performance without the polarizing grille found on the M3. However, such excellence comes at a price: the sedan starts at €101,700, while the Touring model begins at €102,900 in Germany. Though they might lack the immediate classiness of earlier iterations, give it time—10 to 20 years, and these vehicles will likely be revered classics in their own right.
A Glimpse into ALPINA's Future
As the decade advances, the current B3 is poised for retirement, aligning with BMW’s plans to phase out the G20 and G21 models. Future ALPINA models will aim higher in the luxury market, focusing on larger, more premium offerings. This strategy hints at the possible return of legendary models like the B7, promising that ALPINA’s future will be both ambitious and exciting.
