In a heartwarming gesture, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso brought the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) to life for the youth of Spain. Just ahead of the much-anticipated Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, Alonso hosted a series of dynamic and engaging STEM workshops in his hometown of Oviedo, Asturias. Bringing a spark of excitement to 30 lucky school students, the two-time F1 champion along with Pedro de la Rosa set the stage for an electrifying experience they won't soon forget.

The workshops were held at the Museo y Circuito Fernando Alonso, a place as iconic as the driver himself. As part of the workshops, students dove headfirst into various STEM activities, exploring the wonders of science and technology that underpin one of the world's most complex and thrilling sports. Alonso and his fellow Spaniard, Pedro de la Rosa, who also serves as an Aston Martin Ambassador, added a touch of exhilaration with karting sessions, further igniting the kids’ passion for motorsport.

Notably, this event was part of a broader initiative. Aston Martin and their fuel partner, Aramco, have been committed to fostering young talent through similar STEM and karting sessions. Previous workshops this season were successfully conducted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Shanghai, China. These collaborations highlight a shared vision of driving innovation and creating opportunities for the next generation.

“At Aramco, we believe in pushing the limits of possibility through sport. We are using sports as a platform to drive innovation, create opportunities, improve lives, and positively impact society,” said Rania Biltagi, Aramco’s Marketing, Partnership & Sponsorship Manager. Her words echo the underlying philosophy of their initiative, which transcends mere educational sessions to leave a tangible, positive impact on young lives.

Together with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, Aramco aims to light the spark of curiosity and determination in these young scientists, engineers, and potential racing drivers. “Through these fantastic events, we hope to continue igniting the innovative, inclusive, and passionate potential within the youth, who will be the STEM leaders of tomorrow,” Biltagi added.

Alonso, a celebrated hero in Spain, was visibly enthusiastic about hosting such a transformative event in his homeland. Reflecting on the day, he shared, “It’s always special to speak with younger generations and see their passion for motor racing. Motorsports has grown in popularity over the years in Spain, and we hope to see more Spanish talent making it into the highest level of racing. Aramco is extremely passionate about this topic, and it’s great to see such a fantastic program to help these students across many of the STEM disciplines.”

Hosting the workshop at his own museum made the event even more meaningful for Alonso. “It was very special to host this event in my hometown and museum. Events like this one today help to engage those battling to make it through the ranks in their chosen disciplines and raise the interest levels for racing, which leaves a lasting mark in the region and country,” Alonso explained.

As Alonso prepares to compete on familiar turf at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya, finishing sixth recently in Montreal, Canada, his commitment to nurturing future talent remains commendable. Not only does it underscore his extraordinary career on the track, but it also highlights his dedication to fostering an environment where the STEM leaders of tomorrow can thrive.
