You Won't Believe Who Wins When the Acura NSX Takes on the Camaro SS, Mustang GT, and Audi RS 3
Some automotive thrills need no introduction, and when the Acura NSX met rivals like the Camaro SS, Mustang GT, and Audi RS 3 at the Maryland International Raceway, you just knew it was going to be special. The event was part of RaceMotive’s exciting 2024 calendar, featuring a variety of roll racing and drag racing spectacles. Usually held at venues like the Pocono Raceway and New Jersey Motorsports Park, this one at M.I.R. delivered a feast for speed enthusiasts.
Roll Racing: Exhilarating Competitions
RaceMotive isn’t your average racing outfit. From May to October, they host events that cater specifically to street cars, drawing in crowds hungry for some high-octane action. This time, a pearl white Acura NSX, fresh from the second-generation lineup, took center stage. Its first challenge? A face-off against a crimson Chevrolet Camaro SS.
With engines roaring and anticipation in the air, the NSX and Camaro rocketed down the 1/3-mile track. In a gripping contest, the NSX nudged ahead with a trap speed of 140 mph, narrowly outpacing the Camaro's 136 mph. This was just the opening act.
Mustang GT's Narrow Edge
Next up, the formidable Ford Mustang GT took its shot at the NSX. Despite the NSX’s persistent thrust, the Mustang eked out a win, clocking in at 142.59 mph against the NSX’s 140.67 mph. The loss did little to dull the brilliance of the hybrid sports car, merely adding fuel to the fire for the next challenge.
The Clash with Audi RS 3
Entering its final bout, the Acura NSX went head-to-head with a crimson Audi RS 3 sedan boasting a robust 600 horsepower. The matchup was intense but ended with the NSX taking the crown—achieving a speed of nearly 139 mph while the Audi trailed with 131 mph. This marked the NSX’s journey through a series of nail-biting races.
End of an Era
Sadly, these thrilling performances are bittersweet as the Acura NSX ceased production in 2022. Ending its run with the exclusive Type S edition, only 350 units of this 602-horsepower beast were made. As we reminisce about its triumphant roll racing episodes, a question lingers—was this a regular NSX or the rare Type S?
The Future of Acura
Looking ahead, it seems Acura’s focus has shifted towards crossover SUVs. The refreshed 2025 MDX, the all-electric Acura ZDX Type S, and the upcoming entry-level ADX CUV indicate a new direction. Yet, for those who reveled in the NSX’s thunderous adventures, we can only hope Acura continues to infuse sportiness into their future models.
